Global design futures workshop
On Friday 27th April our course MA Service Experience Design and Innovation held a workshop based on the subject of future government at Central Saint Martens.
The workshop encouraging us to further develop our idea and presentation in several ways. These include making our presentation and storytelling clearer, smoother and perhaps more concise.
It would be beneficial to create and show other examples to present how our system works from beginning to end, including new and more varied stakeholders and the impact each project would have on them.
Another aspect suggested for development was the way we displayed and requested data from the users of our service. We should consider the specific types of data we may need which would likely vary per project. To make our system friendlier for its stakeholders, it would also be good to make it more transparent by sharing information such as maintenance and other costs that would be created by each project. This financial transparency may lead to protests, amongst other triggering factors that can be involved in construction. It is important to consider what interventions and preventions could be used in these cases.
In response to the feedback we received during the workshop, we have decided to focus our project on a specific Camden 2025 issue that they are aiming to improve and resolve. By 2025 Camden aims to have helped the homeless get off of the streets and into housing.
Our new idea involves creating a platform where residents and companies based in Camden can submit any spare spaces they have, from garages, spare rooms, to unused halls and museums. These spaces would then be made available for the homeless. There would be an interview and mentoring program to make sure that all users behave appropriately, and respect the spaces and inhabitants. The homeless would have access to the spaces for a predetermined amount of time, in which they would receive emotional support in the form of a mentor. In addition to this they would be given help to find employment and build and use any skills they presently have or would like to develop. This idea would provide accommodation for the homeless and a platform for them to rebuild their careers and lives.
We are focusing on the use of social credit specifically, while also touching upon the use of the digital based on JRC scenario. The platform will be built the homeless people’s credit-doc by use monitor to find them and gather their information. They can see the info about empty spaces on bus/underground station interactive billboard and contact with the owner. There would be an interview and mentoring program to make sure that all users behave appropriately, and respect the spaces and inhabitants. Overall, the community would become more inclusive and connected. There will be a decrease of homeless, who will instead be housed and rehabilitated and reintegrated into society. Furthermore, people will care more about their social credit level in the future scenario we have chosen, so people will act more responsibly to take care of their local area to improve this, not only to aid those in need. We also think about the opportunity that provides a source of affordable housing. <What's next?> 1. Research about the current situation and find out possibilities for future: discover the current support facilities (hostels) for the homeless to find opportunities to develop such as what technologies can be used in the future? 2. Discover opportunities: How can we design the social credit system? What kind of future digital devices that homeless will use in the future? 3. Develop our service: Develop the future service journey and define the future persona and develop their story.
